Art from the Heart Project

The Atlanta Fine Arts League, Inc. is kicking off its inaugural community project with Art From the Heart, a project where local artists will donate their time and talents to create a portrait of Georgia's service men and women who have died in the line of duty while in Afghanistan and Iraq. The project was created by Lisa Gleim-Jonas who was inspired by a project that she participated in called Portrait Project 9/11 where Ms. Gleim-Jonas painted the portrait of fallen New York Fire Fighter Tommy Foley who died in the World Trade Center disaster. She and three of the League's founding members started the project in 2005 and it has grown to over 50 artists participating and over 75 portraits to date.

The portraits are professional quality oil paintings of the head and shoulders and 20 x 24 inches in size. This way each family will receive the same size and type of portrait and will hang easily in each family's home. Each of our volunteer artists are professional artists and have been reviewed so as to make sure each artist can capture the likeness of the soldier.
